HelplinesThese can offer confidential access to specialist counsellors who are able to talk you through the process of giving up smoking, and help with any problems you might have. If you just want some information to get you started, you can ask for that. Some of the helplines may ask callers for personal information for research or call back purposes – you can give your details if you wish. The free national helplines in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are funded by the NHS. Other agencies also provide free helplines, including the charity Quit whose services include Asian language Quitlines and help by e-mail.
Most of the helplines will offer to send you information by post – you will need to give your name and address for that. The helplines should also be able to let you have a contact number for your local NHS stop smoking centres. Smokeline Scotland (Freephone) 0800 84 84 84 12pm-12midnight (If English is not your 1st language, you can call smokeline & request your own language.)
